What is a USDA Timber Production Expansion (TPEP) Loan?

USDA Timber Production Expansion (TPEP) loans are backed by the federal government. USDA guarantees 90% of loans made by approved lenders to sawmills and wood processing facilities, assuring lenders they will not lose money on the guaranteed portion. This protection results in higher leverage, longer terms, and more competitive interest rates than conventional mill financing. TPEP is designed to expand America’s wood processing capacity and can be used to establish, reopen, retrofit, expand, or improve a facility.
